The presence of the Regnum Mariae in Canada is to be traced back officially to November 1991, when the Central Council welcomed an application of a sister of Haitian origins living in Montreal.

Since March 1988, ten women in Montreal had sent a written request to be part of the Institute and to start the RM presence in Canada. The group had already began to be interested in the Institute since 1986, due to the Servant Bishop Mons. Cimichella †, who had introduced the Rule of Life of the Regnum Mariae in French translated by the then Prior General of the Order of the Servants of Mary.

The Central Council, which at the time was wondering about the possibility of spreading abroad, asked this brother, who in the meantime concluded his service as OSM Prior General and returned to Canada, to help this small group in discernment and invited some of these women to come to Italy.

A deeper knowledge, frequent contacts and the collaboration of our Servite brothers allowed to clarify their choice of consecration in the world with the profession of the evangelical counsels, and offered the group useful information to better understand the specificity of Secular Institutes and of Regnum Mariae and, in this way, to discern in their desire for consecration and in the compatibility or not with their state of life.

Our sister in Montreal, after a challenging formation process, made the profession of the evangelical counsels according to the Rule of Life of the Regnum Mariae in 1994 and is currently the only member of the RM Institute in Canada.
